A Bourbon Lover’s Guide to the Big Game
Celebrate the big game with friends, family, and plenty of food and drink inspired by The Spirit of Florida.
Football’s biggest stage is set, and soon fans from all over the world will head to SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles for a showdown between the Cincinnati Bengals and the hometown Los Angeles Rams. It’s a battle of new vs. old: Cincinnati is led by Joe Burrow, who has led the Bengals on a magical run in his first full season at QB after a knee injury dashed his rookie year. On the other side, veteran QB Matthew Stafford finally has a shot at that long-elusive championship – and he’s got a team of superstars alongside him ready to make it happen.
At St. Augustine Distillery, we’re constantly balancing old and new: our spirits are based on years of tradition, but we constantly evolve our process as pioneers of the Florida craft distillation. We’re also constantly looking at new ways to incorporate our spirits into tasty food, drinks, and much more.
There’s nothing like wings for the big game, and we’ve got a great recipe plus two delicious sauces that feature the flavors of our world-class bourbon. In addition to our very own Bourbon BBQ Sauce, we have an incredible recipe for honey sriracha sauce made with our exclusive Bourbon Barrel-Aged Honey.
Need something to drink? What goes with bourbon wings better than…well, bourbon? We’ve included a recipe for our classic Old Fashioned to pair with both of these tasty recipes.
Whether you wear blue and yellow or orange and black, everyone can come together over this spread! Here’s how to make everything you need for your St. Augustine football Sunday.
A Classic Old Fashioned
Preparation:
Prepare a rocks glass with a large format ice cube
Combine bourbon and mixer, stirring gently until just combined
Garnish with orange peel and serve
Ingredients:
.5 oz St. Augustine Distillery Old Fashioned Mix
Orange Peel for garnish
Bourbon BBQ Wings
Ingredients
4 lbs chicken wings, halved at joints, wingtips discarded
2 tablespoons baking powder (make sure it’s aluminum free)
¾ tsp salt
½ tsp cracked black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1½ cup St. Augustine Distillery Bourbon BBQ Sauce for tossing
Note: Make a spectacular Honey BBQ sauce by adding ¼ cup St. Augustine Distillery Bourbon Barrel-Aged Honey.
Directions
Adjust the oven racks to the upper-middle and lower-middle position and preheat to 425ºF.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire cooling rack on top. Coat the rack with cooking oil or spray.
Use a paper towel to pat wings dry and place in a large bowl. The drier you get the wings, the crispier they will be.
Combine baking powder and all spices in a bowl, and sprinkle over the wings. Toss evenly to coat.
Arrange wings skin side up on the prepared rack.
Bake on the upper-middle rack, turning wings every 20 minutes until crispy and browned.
Note: The total cook time will depend on the size of the wings, and may take up to 1 hour. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that wings reach an internal temperature of 165ºF.
Remove wings from the oven. Toss with bourbon BBQ Sauce.
